ABSTRACT

The patient was a 41-year-old man who was in a restless state due to leptomeningeal carcinomatosis. He was sedated and intubated, and then underwent transbronchial biopsy while on a ventilator. The patient was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung and tested positive for epidermal growth factor receptor mutation. He was treated with osimertinib and discharged ambulatory. Prognosis for patients with central nervous system metastases from lung cancer is poor, but with the advent of molecular targeted agents, some favorable outcomes have been reported. Although the indications for endotracheal intubation in patients with advanced lung cancer should be carefully determined, we herein report a successful treatment experience.
