ABSTRACT

An 80-year-old man developed fever and cough and was diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Because chest CT at the time of diagnosis of COVID-19 showed a shadow in the lower lobe of the right lung, bronchoscopy was performed after his isolation period, and he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma. Although the CT scan and FDG-PET showed swelling and FDG accumulation in the subcarinal lymph nodes, surgery revealed no metastases to the subcarinal lymph nodes. Mediastinal lymphadenopathy, probably due to COVID-19, made staging difficult. We were able to confirm histopathological findings consistent with organizing pneumonia that is part of the healing process for COVID-19 pneumonia.
