ABSTRACT

Endobronchial hamartoma (EH) is a rare disease among benign lung tumors. To the best of our knowledge, there are few Japanese reports of EHs that have been resected under rigid or flexible bronchoscopy at a single facility. Here, we describe seven cases which were resected with rigid bronchoscopy and one case of EH which was resected with flexible bronchoscopy. We used bronchoscopic electrosurgical snaring for the safe removal of the EHs. Five cases were cartilaginous hamartomas and three cases were lipomatous hamartomas. Only one case developed mild postoperative pneumonia and in another case granulation tissue formed. There were no serious complications, deaths, or recurrences. We completed endoscopic resection of all eight cases safely and report our experience with reference to the relevant literature.
