ABSTRACT

We report a patient with endobronchial chondroid hamartoma diagnosed by bronchoscopic biopsy. A 42-year-old man visited a primary care doctor with fever and cough. He was referred to our hospital because chest X-ray showed infiltration in the left lower lobe. Chest computed tomography demonstrated a round mass in the left main bronchus. The mass was 18×13 mm and occluded the left bronchus with atelectasis of the left lower lobe. He was admitted to our hospital with a diagnosis of obstructive pneumonia. He was treated with antibiotics and improved. Bronchoscopy revealed a round, smooth-surfaced, polypoid mass obstructing the left main bronchus, and a bronchoscopic biopsy was performed. The histological findings showed cartilage, surrounded by cartilaginous tissue and fat tissue, so chondroid hamartoma was diagnosed. He was transferred to a hospital for endoscopic resection, and was treated with high-frequency electrosurgical snaring.
