ABSTRACT

We herein report the case of a 65-year-old woman who presented with coughing and dyspnea that had had a duration of more than 1 month. Chest contrast-enhanced computed tomography images revealed a mass-like density in the patient’s pulmonary trunk extending to her left main pulmonary artery. Positron emission tomography images showed high uptake of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose in the lesion. As a Doppler examination of the lesion showed reduced blood flow, we performed endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) targeting the mass lesion. Results of a pathological examination of a sample obtained by EBUS-TBNA confirmed the diagnosis of pulmonary artery sarcoma. EBUS-TBNA is a potentially useful tool for diagnosing intrapulmonary arterial tumors.
