ABSTRACT

A 78-year-old man complaining of dyspnea and cough was referred to our hospital. On admission, chest contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a mass in the right main bronchus. Bronchoscopy revealed a whitish polypoid tumor that extended from the right upper lobe bronchus to the right main bronchus. We performed endoscopic bronchial polypectomy by high-frequency electrosurgery and then added radiation therapy. Histological findings showed a mixture of spindle and giant cell features, so we finally diagnosed pleomorphic carcinoma. No recurrence was observed but, 6 months after radiation therapy, a mass was detected at the same site and recurrence was suspected. Endoscopic bronchial polypectomy was very useful for symptom relief and the control of tumor progression.
