ABSTRACT

A 38-year-old woman visited our hospital because of abnormal lung shadows in a chest X-ray film. She had a history of splenectomy resulting from a traffic injury. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple nodules on the pleura in the left chest. She had no symptoms. We suspected splenosis from the patient's history of trauma and the radiographic findings. Technetium-99m Sn colloid scintigraphy was performed, and showed multiple hot spots in the left thorax, corresponding to the nodules on the chest CT. A diagnosis of thoracic splenosis was established. Because ectopic spleen in thoracic splenosis is reported to function as a normal spleen, CT observation was selected for her.
