ABSTRACT

A 79-yaer-old man who for several years had been treated for pulmonary emphysema complained of wheezing and difficulty in breathing. A respiratory function test showed combined restrictive and obstructive abnormality. Chest CT on admission revealed a round tumor in the right main bronchus. On bronchoscopy, this bronchus was completely occluded by the tumor. Its diameter was 10 mm. The tumor was excised with an endoscopic high-frequency snare. The pathological diagnosis was a noncartilage endobronchial hamartoma. After excision, the wheezing and difficulty in breathing disappeared, and the respiratory function was almost normalized.
