We report the case of a 31-year-old woman in whom chest radiography and computed tomography revealed nodular shadows and a right inferior lung lobe cyst. Histopathological evaluation of a biopsy specimen confirmed that the nodular shadows represented multifocal micronodular pneumocyte hyperplasia (MMPH), and the patient was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis complex. We monitored the cyst, which showed gradual expansion. We therefore resected the bulla, and histopathological evaluation showed MMPH in the alveolar wall at the proximal aspect of the bulla. In our opinion, the check-valve mechanism associated with MMPH contributed to cyst formation and growth. We present a rare case of MMPH that resulted in a cystic lesion.
