ABSTRACT

A questionnaire survey was conducted among physicians at university hospitals in certified facilities by the Japanese Respiratory Society (JRS). Of the 978 doctors who had been newly employed in departments of respiratory medicine in the past 5 years, 303 (31.0%) had gone on to graduate school. Of the 303 graduate students, 84.8% attended graduate school courses and 15.2% went to graduate school for working adults. Of the fields of study, 61.0% undertook basic research and 39.0% did clinical research. After completing graduate school, 60.5% of the doctors worked at university hospitals, and approximately 10% studied abroad. We here report valuable information about graduate school that is useful for young JRS members who may want to go on to graduate school in the future.
