ABSTRACT

Unilateral whole lung lavage (WLL) under general anesthesia is the standard treatment for autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (aPAP). In 1967, Ramirez-R reported on the massive pulmonary lavage (MPL) method, but the standard WLL method has not been established in the literature.
Currently, the Japanese Respiratory Society is preparing guidelines for aPAP, but in order to capture the contents related to WLL, a literature review was added to 114 cases of WLL that were performed on 20 cases of aPAP. We report the summary of the workshop about WLL which was attended by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) research group.
