Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a tick-borne infectious disease caused by the SFTS virus. We recently encountered a patient with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) secondary to SFTS virus infection. The patient, who had fever, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia, was referred to our hospital for treatment. On admission, blood tests indicated a diagnosis of SFTS. Multiple pulmonary shadows appeared on an X-ray image during hospitalization but there was no response to antibacterial drugs. Aspergillus spp. was detected in the sputum. He died of sepsis and disseminated intravascular coagulation. We considered that IPA had probably developed because of severe immunodeficiency caused by the SFTS virus infection and high-dose steroid therapy.
