The aim of this study was to identify changes in psychological factors in quitters who had maintained abstinence for nine months after attending the clinic. Psychological factors were evaluated on the first and the last day of the smoking cessation program, using the Kano test for social nicotine dependence (KTSND). Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between maintaining abstinence and tobacco dependence screener (TDS) score, Fagerström test for nicotine dependence (FTND) score, and KTSND score at the end of the smoking cessation clinic, as well as changes in KTSND scores during the clinic. KTSND scores at the end of the clinic were independently associated with long-term abstinence [odds ratio 0.87, 95% CI (confidence interval) 0.77–0.99, p<0.05].
