Costimulatory and coinhibitory molecules in immunoregulation and immunotherapy

ABSTRACT
Optimal T cell responses require costimulatory and coinhibitory signals. T cell costimulatory signals are essential for T cell activation, and T cell coinhibitory signals control and finely tune the T cell responses. Here I review the role of T cell costimulatory and coinhibitory molecules, and discuss possible therapeutic strategies targeting these molecules.
