Periostin, a matricellular protein, is upregulated in various inflammatory and/or fibrotic diseases. We have developed outstanding periostin detection systems using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and demonstrated periostin as a useful biomarker. A clinical application of periostin is expected for bronchial asthma and idiopathic interstitial pneumonias among respiratory diseases.
